So we went to watch. Myself, my wife and my baby. A lot of her family had also come to support...
My wife and her cousin are teachers, and they were chatting about her husband, who is a manager at The Angel Inn, who apparently, had had an interesting encounter a few nights ago...
He had been sat at his desk when he felt someone shake the back of his revolving chair, moving it back and forth...
So he thought “Oh someone is here…”
Then he felt that someone put their hands on his shoulders…
So he turned around…
And there was nobody there…
Which is a bit weird…
So I stay long enough to witness my nephew record a hit, an RBI, a stolen base, a run, and a strikeout...
That’s not a strikeout hitting. He was 1 for 1 from what I saw. This was a strikeout pitching. My nephew is basically Shohei Ohtani, but I digress...
I drive to Niagara-On-The-Lake for my ghost walk and I park on one of the back streets because...
A) It’s free parking back there…
B) I still have to change into my ghost guide attire and I don’t want people on the street peaking at me through the windows….
C) It’s right across the street from a stop on the walk where I stand underneath the lamp post in front of the vacant lot…
And then I’d secretly set off the my car alarm in my pocket…
(A skunk just walked right past my table at The Angel Inn, as I write this! …so scary!)
So I’m in my car changing, and at 8 o clock all the lamp posts turned on…
Except not ALL of the lamp posts turned on…
The lamp post under which I stand does not turn on….
Which is a bit weird…
(I actually shivered as I write this!)
But then on Halloween night, I did back to back ghost walks, and on the first walk, the light was out as per usual, and I set off my alarm and spooked the group real good….
Then on my second tour as I approached the lamp post I noticed that it was now turned ON…
Which was a bit weird…
And it’s been working ever since. Until now…
So that’s why I thought to myself tonight…”That’s a bit weird”…
Then we approach the apothecary…
The apothecary is one of my favourite stops on the walk and I’ve had many interesting experiences there. Particularly with the room in the back right corner…
As we approach the apothecary I notice that there is a light turned on that isn’t usually on. In the room in the back right corner…
(After I write this, I pause and glance up at the moon, then I think about the skunk that passed me by just before and I have a feeling that I’m about to see another skunk or be surprised by some other spooky sign, but nothing does, and I feel silly for always looking for signs that aren’t there and I should go back to writing down my story before I forget…and at that exact moment the Bell Tower starts ringing in town to mark 11 o clock. Bong Bong Bong Bong….11 times. I laugh out loud because it startled me and then feel silly because my server at that moment brings over my deep fried pickles and sees me laughing to myself and must think that I’m crazy, but I digress…)
Small groups are fun because you can be more personal, and we had been getting along well and before we had even arrived at the apothecary that night I had already told them about all the cool pictures and strange things I’d seen and heard about there…
When we arrived outside of the building I began knocking on the door and the windows and I’m rattling the door knob and shaking the door in it’s frame and asking the ghost to show himself…
Very obnoxious behaviour, I hadn’t done it before and I haven’t done it since…
On this night, for whatever reason, the door to that back right corner room was shut. Which was weird, because 99% of the time that door would be wide open...
So it caught my attention, and it triggered my memory of a private ghost walk I had done a few years before for a 14 year old girls birthday party and her friends and parents. On that night we had gone around the back of the apothecary to look inside the window of the back right corner room…
Because it looked very much like a face pressed up against the window pane. Eyes, nose and a gaping screaming angry mouth…
Two of the girls began bawling their eyes out, absolutely terrified. I’m giving them my top hat and cape trying to cheer them up and calm them down. Deep down though I was just as scared…
So I was telling that story to the group of 5, and saying that since the door is shut and we can’t see inside the back room, we too should go around the back and take a photo…
So I begin to lead the way. Then one of the girls in my group says ‘The door just opened”…
Now I think “Uh Oh”, because I had been shaking and rattling the door too hard and now I’ve broken it and I’m going to be in trouble…
But it’s not the front door that has opened...
It’s the door inside in the back right corner room...
Has just opened itself up all the way open...
It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever witnessed…
So when tonight I approached the apothecary and saw an unusual light on in that back right corner room, that's why I thought…
That’s a little weird…
We continue our walk and eventually we arrive at the lamp post across from my car…
Now the light is ON…
That’s a bit weird…
So I ask my group if they sense anything strange about where we are standing. Then I ask if any spirits would like to give us some kind of a sign…
Then I secretly set off my car alarm in my pocket…
The group falls for it hook, line and sinker...
I pretend to play it off that it was one of the guys in our groups car and that he had done it as a joke…
He insists he didn’t, and a spooky mood is successfully set as I begin to tell a ghost story…
After I finish my story, I jokingly ask the man again to please admit that he was the one who set off the car alarm…
Then right after I ask him, the car alarm goes off again…
This time though my keys are in my pocket but my hands are nowhere near them…
My first thought was that this time, the man actually had set off HIS car alarm to mess with me…
But it is my car alarm that is going off, even though I have no idea how or why…
At the exact moment of me asking about the car alarm going off…
And I think…”That’s a bit weird”…
So now I’m sitting enjoying a tasty Angel Inn lager and writing down these weird things just so that I don’t forget…
If you would like to join me for a ghost walk I’ll be leading them every Sunday at 8 30. Come and get weird with me! :) - DG
